What is the Color Category?

LIGHT NEAR NEUTRAL – because of its Value of 8.84 and Chroma of 0.54. This one will definitely align with what greige is suppose to look like for a lot of people. It’s another example of a color name with the word “white” in it -but- the color isn’t a color of white. Moderne White has a Value of 8.84 which means it’s darker than a white or off-white.

A Chroma of 0.54 is still low-ish so it’s a muted Light Near Neutral. It belongs to the green-yellow hue family and low chroma colors from this hue family range are often perceived as being the most neutral with no discernible hue bias. So you can expect it to look “just gray” or “just greige”. But you need to test it to see how it actually shows up.

I recommend Samplize Peel & Stick Samples because they’re made with real paint.

How do we know what color category? Because we have hue, value, chroma and LRV color notations that describe what colors look like. So, we can easily sort and categorize paint colors:

Chroma less than 0.55
Off-Whites

Chroma 0.55 to 1.15
