What is the Color Category?

WHITE – Oh, it’s definitely white. A clean, clear, crisp white. We know that because of its Value of 9.56 and Chroma of 0.25 – those two data values indicate bright, light and nearly achromatic (no color at all).

Because of its low Chroma, Chantilly Lace will work with a lot of other colors of white/off-white. So, it’s a great choice for trim, doors and cabinets.

The rule of thumb is there needs to be a difference in Chroma of 0.20 (ish) between the two colors in order to ensure neither one makes the other look dirty or dingy. This rule of thumb applies to white-on-white color schemes only.

Where can you find Chroma values for paint colors? The Paint Color DNA Table. We have all major brands.

Chantilly Lace Exterior

What about using Chantilly Lace on my exterior? I’d say maybe. A lot depends on what region you live in and the colors of the fixed elements on the house.

Chantilly Lace blends well with many colors of white windows and that may be enough to create a cohesive color scheme. Bright white on trim can be just as bold in terms of contrast as a color so you want to be sure that it’s the right choice for the style of your home.

LRV Controversy

Benjamin Moore recently updated their website and as you may or may not have noticed, the LRV notations for their colors changes too.

All told, there are three different published LRV values for Chantilly Lace.

What is Chantilly Lace LRV

We updated our Colorography to align with Benjamin Moore’s most recent website information.

Because we pull all LRV values for our Colorographies and The Paint Color DNA Table from each brand’s website.

We do that for consistency. Because the actual measurement of LRV is not without controversy in the color science community.

Read more about LRV and why it’s important to compare LRVs from the same source in my Guide to LRV for Paint Colors and More.

Defining White and Off- White

How can we so clearly and concisely categorize color of whites and off-whites? Because we have hue, value, chroma and LRV color notations that describe what colors look like. So, we can easily eliminate confusion and chaos.

Making the task of sorting and categorizing paint colors fun and an absolute pleasure:

Off-Whites
