Moody color for bedroom
Hi! I am trying to create a cozy/moody bedroom and am considering Benjamin Moore Elephant Gray or Portland Gray. All the trim is painted SW Extra White. I see on easyrgb that Portland Gray has more red than Elephant Gray, so I’m afraid if I use Portland the room will look pink or purple. I’m not sure if the rgb numbers are even meaningful in this context (not a pro). I do have samples and like both colors, but will the color change when it’s bouncing off 4 walls?! I’ve read most of the blog but I’m still trying to grasp the concepts. I have BM Balboa Mist with SW Extra White trim in some other rooms and it’s beautiful! Just want a deeper color in the bedroom. Thank you!
Update: We went with BM Smoky Taupe in the master bedroom and it achieved exactly the look we were going for. The hallway leading to the bedroom is painted in BM Balboa Mist and the transition is quite nice. Hope this helps someone!
Thanks for the update! I plotted the colors on The Color Strategist Color Wheel and so we could understand how they relate (analogously). So glad it's working for you.
Sorry no one replied sooner. It's been a little crazy here at The Land of Color for the last few months.
@lorisawaya Hi Lori, Thank you for your reply! To my untrained eye, the colors do work together nicely. I hope your opinion is the same but if it’s not I would welcome your insight. A guest bedroom, also off the hallway, is painted BM Quiet Moments and we love it! Of course there are doorways between the hall and the bedrooms. I was trying to create a smooth transition using similar tones as a backdrop to colorful art, furniture, and decor. I’m not a pro so I’m most likely using the wrong terms, but I so appreciate all the information you share so generously.
